Chancellor’s Lecture on Global Racial Reckoning and Civility
The Chancellor’s Lecture Series on Global Racial Reckoning and Civility strives to provide timely and ongoing conversation with scholars and activists on trending topics, domestic and global, that challenge and amplify our understanding of global civility and humanity. Topics include conversations on racism, discrimination, classism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other prejudices that challenge our vision of a beloved community at home and abroad. Invited guests will engage multiple communities on campus and will give a public lecture for the campus community and the greater Camden community.
2024 Lecture
Chancellor Antonio D. Tillis invites you to the 2024 Chancellor’s Lecture Series on Global Racial Reckoning and Civility featuring Susan Benesch. Join us on Wednesday, April 24, at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center as she discusses “Dangerous Speech and What We Can Do About It.”
Susan Benesch founded and directs the Dangerous Speech Project to study speech that can inspire violence - and to find ways to prevent this, without infringing on freedom of expression. She conducts research on methods to diminish harmful speech online, or the harm itself. Trained as a human rights lawyer at Yale, Susan has worked for NGOs including Amnesty International and Human Rights First. She is also Faculty Associate of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Societyat Harvard University.
